Dr. Joanna "Jo" Sisk-Purvis is a musician, educator, and writer. Her YA Fantasy novel THE WATCHERS, the first of a trilogy, was released by Evolved Publishing in December 2022. Her short stories have been published in Cricket Magazine: Bully in Jan. 2016, and The Girl Who Lived With Robots, in two parts in Sept. and Oct. 2017. Jo is an accomplished flutist, conductor, and composer with music degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, Northwestern University, and the University of Southern California. A champion of contemporary composers, she commissioned and premiered works by composers including Andrew Norman, Vincent Ho, and Bear McCreary before their careers launched onto the international stage. Joanna has taught music at Carolina Friends School since 2008, is music director for the Durham Savoyards and the Stone Soup Theatre Company, freelances in the Triangle area, and composes songs for her community. She lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with her husband, three children, and an ever-growing menagerie of pets from Captain the Cockatiel to her two sheep, Phineas and Ferb.
